Gina Cunningham
Co-Founder, Coronado Speed Festival
Gina Cunningham is considered the
“marketing and public relations mind” behind the Coronado
Speed Festival. Without her continuous promotional efforts
over the past 10 years, the event would not be the success
that is it today. Working alongside her late husband of 18
years, Richard “Rug” Cunningham, the cherished military
tribute and race car event has become what it is today; the
event that so many Southern Californians love and mark their
calendar for annually.
Gina has been an
integral part of the San Diego community for 31 years since
moving from Iowa, where she was born and raised. After
graduating from the University of Iowa with a double major
in journalism and political science, she took a magazine
editing job in San Diego. Shortly after, she began
volunteering for various political campaigns and
fundraisers, and was eventually hired as a congressional
aide for Congressman Bill Lowry. Four years later, she used
her journalism and political experience to start a
government relations public relations company. She has been
involved in community, government and public relations in
San Diego for the entirety of her residence here.
Currently, Gina is
the President of Cunningham BMW, where she strives to create
a positive work environment and ensure that customers
receive excellent service. She also serves as a member and
one of the individuals on the board of directors for the
Chamber of Commerce.
Not only is she
quite distinguished professional, but also has she been a
key participant in her local community. She served as
president of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and has sat on
numerous other local boards including the Girl Scouts and
the Alzheimer’s Family Center. Her leadership and hard-work
have gained her numerous honors including the City Club’s
award for outstanding citizenship and she has been featured
in various print stories, one of the most recent stories was
in the San Diego Business Journal’s “Who’s Who” list of the
most prominent individuals in San Diego.
When Gina’s not busy
helping an organization or promoting excellence in her
business she enjoys vintage car racing, motorcycling and
traveling. She lives the College Area, a community in San
Diego.
