Vice Admiral (Retired) Edward Moore, Jr. is employed by General Dynamics Information Technology (formerly Anteon Corporation) as Vice President of Integrated Systems since June 2006. In addition, he serves as the principal point of contact for the SPAWAR Major Services Acquisition contract. In June 2001, Edward was hired by Anteon Corporation as Group Vice President, Systems Integration where he served in that capacity until Anteon Corporation was acquired by General Dynamics in June 2006.
Edward enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve in 1963 and commissioned an Ensign immediately after college in 1968. After being designated a Joint Specialty Officer in 1998, he served as Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet from August 7, 1998 to May 18, 2001. During this tour he was responsible for training, maintenance, technology upgrades, and personnel assignments needed to achieve combat readiness for the 84 ships of the Navy’s Pacific Fleet, an annual budget of $670 million, and more than 30,000 civilian and military personnel assigned throughout the Pacific Ocean area. He retired from the U.S. Navy on July 1, 2001.
Previous shore assignments included Assistant Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Plans, Policy, and Operations and Director, Strategy and Policy Division, CNO Staff 1997-1998 where he was the Navy Operations Deputy representative to the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS); Commandant, Naval District Washington DC 1993-1995 responsible for all administrative and ceremonial functions in the National Capitol Region including Presidential State Visits; Assistant Chief of Staff for Manpower and Personnel on the staff of Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Fleet 1986-1989; Current Navy Operations Analyst (J-3) on the staff of Commander in Chief, U.S. Pacific Command 1980-1984; Department Head Course at the Surface Warfare Officers School Command; and Junior Officer Assignment Officer (Detailer) and Shore Assignments Coordinator for the Surface Warfare Community in the Bureau of Naval Personnel 1974-1976.
Sea tours included Commander, CARL VINSON Task Group and Commander, Cruiser Destroyer Group THREE, an eight ship/two submarine Battle Group built around the aircraft carrier USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70). In this capacity he directed all operations providing air support, patrol and surveillance of the southern “no-fly” zone over Iraq enforcing U.N. sanctions resulting from the Persian Gulf War. He directed successful U.S. Navy TOMAHAWK and U.S. Air Force CALCM missile strikes against various military sites in Iraq in September 1996 (Operation Desert Strike). He was also the first Commanding Officer of USS COWPENS (CG 63) (1989-1993), an AEGIS Guided Missile Cruiser, where during an Arabian Gulf deployment he led four surface ships (cruisers/destroyers) in a successful TOMAHAWK missile strike against an Iraqi nuclear production facility in 1993. He also served as Commanding Officer, USS LEWIS B. PULLER (FFG 23) (1984-1986), deployed to the Western Pacific in 1986. Additional sea tours included Executive Officer, USS BUCHANAN (DDG 14) in 1978-79; and Weapons Officer in USS STERETT (CG 31) from 1977-78 both completing successful Western Pacific deployments. Assigned to the Precommissioning Unit LANG in 1969, he reported as Communications Officer in USS LANG (DE 1060) and subsequently served a complete tour as Operations Officer deploying twice to the Tonkin Gulf/Vietnam. His initial sea duty tour as an officer was in USS SEVERN (AO 61) where he served as Gunnery Officer, Communications Officer, Classified Material Custodian and Navigator, and deployed to the Mediterranean/Sixth Fleet. Enlisted service included a brief tour in USS HYMAN (DD 732).
Edward’s military decorations include the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit with four gold stars, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and other service and campaign ribbons including Coast Guard Special Operations Service Ribbon. He is a life member of KAPPA ALPHA PSI Fraternity, the Armed Forces Communication and Electronic Association (AFCEA), the Southern Illinois University Alumni Association, the National Naval Officers Association, the Tin Can Sailors Association, and the Horace Mann High School Alumni Association. He is also a member and past President of the Coronado Schools Foundation, a non-profit organization which raises money from the community to support Coronado (California) public schools.
Edward holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Southern Illinois University in June 1968 and a Master of Science in Business Administration from U.S. Naval Postgraduate School in August 1974. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Moore, Sr., grew up in Little Rock, Arkansas. He graduated from Horace Mann High School. He resides in Coronado and Hemet, California with his wife of 38 years, Debbie.
