Cody Nelson

Coronado Speed Festival Producer

Cody works for the San Diego Fleet Week Foundation as an Event Coordinator and is the Event Manager for the Coronado Speed Festival. She has been with the foundation since January 2007. Prior to working for Fleet Week, Cody was the Customer Service and Administrative Director at the La Jolla YMCA overseeing two departments with an annual combined budget of over $1 million and a staff of 30. She has also worked onboard Norwegian Cruise Line as a Shipboard Social Hostess.

Cody was a competitive and marathon swimmer from the ages of 9-20. She learned to swim with the Red Cross Swim Program at the age of 1-½. During her career, she broke two world records and received All-American distinction in 1994. At 12-years 39 days old, Cody became the youngest finisher of the Manhattan Island Swim by completing 28.5 miles in 9 hours 4 minutes and 42 seconds. She currently holds the world record.

Cody received a Bachelor of Science in Human Services with an emphasis in Non-Profit Management and received magna cum laude honors from Springfield College in Massachusetts. In addition, she completed the George Washington University Event Management Certificate Program at the University of San Diego. Cody, a native to Wellington, Florida, is married to Aaron Nelson of Palo Alto, California. The couple has one son.
